Introduction

The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology provides teaching, training and certification of Medico-legal work. Law and medicine have been interrelated and interdependent since antiquity. There are two important facets of this relationship, the legal aspects of medicine and the medical aspects of law. Forensic Medicine deals with the medical aspect of law and the impact of law on medical practice.

Vision

It imperative for medical man to know laws that are relevant to his profession to understand his position in relation to state, patients, colleagues and others so that he can practice his profession according to legal dictates.

Future Opportunities

Forensic medicine students have a number of opportunities, both in the speciable area of forensic investigation and in other associated fields requiring an enquiring, scientific and legal mind. With a Degree in forensic medicine you can be the future toxicologist, forensic scientist, forensic computer analyst, forensic pathologist , forensic psychiatrist or even opt t become the head of department.

The knowledge in forensic medicine has vast application and with the increase interest and research work there have been many advancements in technology, new DNA procedures and instrumentation . Students can collaborate on research projects bring insight from disparate studies to formulate new methodologies; topics ranging from finger printing, genetics, drawing photoifts from DNA to pre- crime policing. The future with forensic medicine looks mighty interesting
